TAKING THE EXAM
1. If there are formulas or key ideas you might forget, write them on your test booklet right away. Do not copy them onto the exam.
2. Read the directions on the test, and pay attention to any instructions or corrections given by the test proctor.
3. Read each question carefully. A machine-graded answer sheet is used so take care to mark your answers properly.
4. For multiple choice questions, work the problem before looking at the answers. Even if your answer is among the choices, you should check your work. The test preparer knows the mistakes students commonly make.
5. For multiple choice questions, if you are not sure how to do a problem try to get a clue from the answers. Can some answers be eliminated? Can the answers be substituted into the question to determine the correct solution?
6. Do all the problems that you are sure of first to maximize your score. Then do all problems that might take a little longer, but do not spend too much time on any one problem. Allot remaining time between checking your completed work and attempting the remaining problems.
7. Try not to be distracted by your fellow test-takers. Don't look around to see how many are finished. Concentrate on your own work.
8. Don't leave early unless you have done and checked all of the problems carefully.
9. If you are going to change your answers, think and carefully check your work.
10. If you are particularly anxious about math exams, try to learn some relaxing techniques that can be used before and during exams.
