S. Alexander Townsend

Introduction

Welcome to my site! My name is Alex Townsend and I am a first year graduate student in the Department of Scientific Computing at Florida State University working in the FSU Morphometrics Laboratory under Dr. Dennis E. Slice.

About Me

I earned two degrees at Florida State University as an undergraduate in Environmental Science and Computational Science in 2015. I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computational Science with which I will hopefully graduate in Spring of 2019 or 2020.

My Research

My current list of research interests is quite large but mostly center on Acoustic Ecology, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning, High-Dimensional Statistics, Time Series Analysis, Geometric Morphometrics, Computational and Data-Driven Medicine, Computational Statistics and Digital Signal and Image Processing.

My current line of research is Computational Methods in Acoustic Ecology. I'm currently working on a project in this area with the Morphometrics Lab investigating patterns of geographic variation in animal vocalizations. Essentially, I want to know if animals have regional accents kind of like humans do!
