The Bulldozer Puzzle
Solution

This solution comes courtesy of Jim Fink.

Number the stones S1, S2, S3, S4 from the top. Each step of the solution involves the "obvious" set of moves by the bulldozer to move a particular stone to a new location:

• S2->65
• S4->74 (to clear space for next move)
• S3->55
• S4->73 (involves a long trip around)
• S1->44 (no hurry, but now is a good time; ONE DONE)
• S3->54 (clearing a path)
• S2->45 (TWO DONE)
• S3->55 (long way around; THREE DONE)
• S4->54 (ALL DONE)
