Dear Referee,

  I attach the draft of a paper by one of the students in my 
"Scientific Communication" class (unless I forgot to do so!).

  I have promised the students that an anonymous referee will
look over their papers and make comments, criticisms and suggestions.

  While I urged my students to imagine that they were writing an
article to submit to a journal, their abilities and efforts have
covered a wide range.  So I leave it to you to choose the standard
by which you evaluate the paper you have received.

  Once your comments have been received, I am asking the students to 
revise their papers in light of the guidance you have provided.
Our class ends on August 5th, but I am hoping your comments will
reach me sooner than that!
