Fast Programs, Big Problems

These slides are the presentation materials for two lectures on measuring program performance, optimizing programs, and estimating program complexity, presented at Florida State University, in the Department of Scientific Computing, to the class ISC 3222-01, "Symbolic and Numeric Calculations", Professor Ming Ye, 11:15am-12:05pm, 152 DSL, 19 and 22 November 2010.

• array1.m, a MATLAB script that fills an array with values using two FOR loops.
• array1_first.m, a MATLAB script that measures and plots the time required to fill arrays of increasing size.

• ell3_edges.txt, a text file listing the pair of nodes forming a side of each triangle (in ascending order), and the index of the triangle, for the ELL3 triangulation. This file can be analyzed to determine the triangles that are neighbors of a given triangle.
• ell3_element_neighbors.txt, the list of neighbors of each triangle in the ELL3 triangulation, produced by the TRIANGULATION_TRIANGLE_NEIGHBORS program.
• ell3_elements.txt, the list of nodes that form each triangle in the ELL3 triangulation.
