FEM_NS - Finite Element Navier Stokes Notes

FEM_NS is a set of working notes, prepared at the request of a postdoctoral student, and presented in an informal seminar in the spring semester, 2005. The notes describe some of the details of an implementation of the finite element method to solve 2D incompressible steady flow governed by the Navier Stokes equations.

Files you may copy include:

• fem_ns1.tex discusses the Navier-Stokes equations;
• fem_ns2.tex discusses the setup of the finite element geometry and basis functions;
• fem_ns3.tex discusses the Stokes equations;
• fem_ns4.tex discusses the Navier-Stokes equations;
• fem_ns5.tex is material that I have not organized yet;
• fem_ns6.tex is a draft of a discussion of the computation and use of a compressed column sparse matrix format for the jacobian.
