**XML** is a data directory which
contains examples of the XML format,
a standard general datafile format.

DOLFIN-CONVERT, a Python program which can convert a mesh file from Gmsh, MEDIT, METIS or SCOTCH format to an XML format suitable for use by DOLFIN or FENICS, by Anders Logg.

DOLFIN_XML, a data directory which contains examples of XML files that describe 3D finite element method (FEM) meshes as used by DOLFIN and FENICS.

FEM_TO_XML, a C program which reads FEM files defining a 1D, 2D or 3D mesh, namely a file of node coordinates and a file of elements defined by node indices, and creates a corresponding XML file for input to DOLFIN or FENICS.

FENICS, programs which illustrate the use of a collection of free software with an extensive list of features for automated, efficient solution of differential equations.

VTU, a data directory which contains examples of VTU files, an XML-based file format used by the Visual Toolkit for unstructured grids, which can be displayed by the paraview interactive visualization program;

XML_TO_FEM, a Python program which reads an XML file created by FENICS or DOLFIN, describing a mesh in 1D, 2D, or 3D, and extracts two sets of information, namely, the coordinates of nodes, and the indices of nodes that form each element, which constitute an FEM model of the mesh.

- battery.xml, a 2D finite element mesh of a battery, with 564 nodes and 1,024 triangular elements.
- bvp_01_mesh.xml, a 1D finite element mesh created by FENICS, with 10 nodes and 9 linear elements.
- bvp_01_u.xml, a finite element solution vector associated with the mesh in bvp_01_mesh.xml, as computed by FENICS, containing a value for each of 10 nodes.
- cylinder_2d.xml, a 2D finite element mesh, using 1649 nodes and 3,078 triangular elements.
- ell_26.xml, a 2D finite element mesh for the L-shaped region, using 26 nodes and 34 triangular elements.
- ell_65.xml, a 2D finite element mesh for the L-shaped region, using 65 nodes and 96 elements.
- pinch.xml, a 2D finite element mesh for flow though a channel which has an elliptical pinch, using 4,323 nodes and 8,298 triangular elements.
- rectangle.xml, a 2D finite element mesh using 20 nodes and 24 triangular elements.
- step_2d.xml, a 2D finite element mesh using 537 nodes and 960 triangular elements.
- tet_mesh.xml, a 3D finite element mesh, using 8 nodes and 6 tetrahedral elements.
